Outcomes of a Government Support Project for Clinical Nurse Educator and Policy Recommendations: From the Perspectives of Clinical Nurse Educators

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify outcomes and support needs recognized by clinical nurse educators in the government support project for clinical nurse educator.

Methods: This research was a secondary data analysis study.
Data were collected from self-evaluation reports submitted by participating institutions from 2019 to 2022. Work satisfaction of clinical nurse educators, the importance of support for nursing education tasks, and the need for improvement of nursing education job support were investigated. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and importance performance analysis. The necessity of institutional support for improving nursing education job were analyzed using the inductive approach of content analysis.

Results: Clinical nurse educators reported low levels of job satisfaction in term of workload and working hours, work environment and support and compensation. The items with high importance and need for improvement were ¡®Recruitment and strengthening competency of clinical nurse educators,¡¯ ¡®Clinical skill room dedicated to nursing education¡¯, and ¡®Facilities for electronic medical record practice.¡¯

Conclusion: Based on these findings, regulations or standards are needed for appropriate staffing of clinical nurse educators, effective management of competency and qualifications of educational nurses, and provision of guidelines for essential training facilities and equipment. At the institutional level, efforts should be made to improve the work environment for clinical nurse educators and to provide sufficient educational resources for maintaining quality of nursing education.
